Create an Interactive Dashboard with Power BI – Explore World Airports

Welcome to our comprehensive Power BI Desktop tutorial where we will guide you through creating an engaging dashboard that showcases airports around the world. Join us as we dive into the powerful features of Power BI, utilizing maps, pie charts, column charts, and scatter charts to visualize airport data like never before.

Step 1: Accessing the World Airport Data Set
We will start by using the World Airport data set to build our dashboard in Power BI Desktop. The link to the data set is provided in the description below. Please log in using your Google ID to download the data in CSV format.

Step 2: Importing and Exploring the Data
Once you’ve downloaded the data, extract it to your desired location. The CSV file contains over 75,000 records, which can be easily viewed using MS Excel or Notepad. We will explore various fields, such as airport type, elevation, GPS coordinates, scheduled service, and runway specifications, to create compelling visuals.

Step 3: Building the Dashboard
Get ready to craft a captivating dashboard that provides valuable insights into the world’s airports. Here’s what we’ll cover:

Map Visual: We’ll create a map displaying countries with the number of airports. Each country’s bubble size will represent the count of airports.

Individual Airport Locations: A duplicate of the map visual will show each airport’s precise location using GPS coordinates.

Pie Chart – Lighted Runways: Discover the distribution of airports with lighted, not lighted, and no data for runways.

Pie Chart – Scheduled Service: Gain insights into the number of airports offering scheduled services.

Column Chart – Airport Types: We’ll use a column chart to visualize the count of airports by their types.

Column Chart – Airport Elevation: Utilizing DAX, we’ll create elevation bins to display the number of airports in each range.

Scatter Chart – Runway Dimensions: This chart will showcase the relationship between runway length and width for airports.

After creating a visually appealing and insightful dashboard, we hope you enjoyed our tutorial. If you found it valuable, remember to like and subscribe for more exciting tutorials and updates.
